From the 31st of July 2012 motorists parking in Braamfontein and Johannesburg CBD will be able to use the new Quickpark Prepaid Touchcard to pay for their parking at parking marshals. The new touchcard is the same size as a credit card and fits snugly into a wallet with the added benefit of being contactless and therefore not having to be removed from your wallet to be used. The touchcard is not disposable as it can be reloaded at a parking marshal again and again. The touchcard can be reloaded with any value and there are no transaction fees for any use of the card.
When using a touchcard to pay for parking, a motorist will benefit from a lower tariff than the cash tariff. The card tariff is R8.00 per hour (R4 per 30 minutes) whereas the cash tariff is R8.50 per hour (R4.25 per 30 minutes). There are several other benefits to using a card including no longer needing to wait for change, being able to see your card credit balance online and receiving monthly statements if you register your card at www.touchcard.co.za.
Cards are for sale at all parking marshals for R25 (Including VAT) but an innovative part of the system includes a card giveaway (loyalty) program. Any motorist who parks 3 times in a row and pays fully for the parking each time, from the 1st of July onward, will qualify for a free card the next time they park after the launch on the 31st of July 2012. There are terms and conditions applicable to this giveaway which are available at www.touchcard.co.za.
It is important that each time you use your touchcard at a marshal, you insist on getting a paper ticket for that transaction and check the details, as mistakes cannot be rectified later. Whenever you pay for parking, always remember to clearly display the paper ticket on your vehicle's dashboard to avoid receiving a parking fine.
Use of the Quickpark Prepaid Touchcard is subject to terms and conditions of use which are available at www.touchcard.co.za.
The new Johannesburg parking system is now in full swing in Braamfontein and the Johannesburg CBD and the public must be aware that non-payment for parking will result in a parking fine being issued. It is important that motorists insist on a ticket from the marshal when paying for parking and that the motorist then clearly displays this ticket on the dashboard of his or her vehicle to prevent a fine being issued.
